The Charitable Pharmacy's primary mission is to be a "bridge" pharmacy to increase access to prescription medications for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals who experience gaps in their insurance coverage and/or challenges in accessing medications through other programs.
Charitable Pharmacy: Clients: About Us
Introduction
The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio, Inc. is a joint project of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and Access Health Columbus. It opened in February 2010, under the guidance of Executive Director/Pharmacist Allan Zaenger.
The Pharmacy's primary purpose is to work to create a bridge pharmacy to increase access to affordable prescription medications for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals who experience gaps in their insurance coverage and/or challenges in accessing medications.
The Pharmacy will also provide counseling and education to ensure that clients take medications properly and are aware of clinics and programs that can help them access continuing medical care or find a medical home.
Rising unemployment and increasing healthcare expenses have resulted in an increasing number of people who cannot afford to purchase their prescription medications. The Charitable Pharmacy can help by filling prescriptions for: high-cost, brand name medications for which there is no generic alternative; those who are in the process of connecting to existing programs; and those who cannot afford generic drugs due to multiple prescriptions.
Goals
- Provide free medications for those who cannot otherwise afford them.
- Decrease the number of people going without necessary prescription medications in Franklin County.
- Provide the highest quality service through health screenings, medication counseling, and social program assistance.
- Reduce the number of Emergency Room and Free Clinic visits for clients of the Charitable Pharmacy.
- Help clients establish a medical home (if necessary) where they can access ongoing medical care.
- Provide educational opportunities for clients to learn about health and wellness.
