Getting Help

At the Charitable Pharmacy, we provide access to medications for people facing challenging health care situations.  At the first visit, we evaluate each individual through a one-on-one consultation to determine the best way to serve his or her needs.  Then, at each subsequent visit, the patient sits down with a staff member who monitors their medication, provides health screenings and education, makes necessary referrals, and answers any questions.

The Charitable Pharmacy has a new curbside process. When you arrive, please pull into one of the numbered parking spaces and call the number on the sign. The pharmacy will bring your medicine out to your car. Please note: There may be a short wait when you arrive.

All new patients are being qualified over the phone. You may schedule your phone appointment at the link below to go through the intake process. You will receive a phone call at the scheduled appointment time. If possible, please schedule your appointment at least three business days before you run out of medicine, as the filling process during COVID takes a few days. For questions, call (614) 227-0301 between 9 am and 3 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Our Mission

The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio's (CPCO) primary mission is to provide affordable and appropriate pharmacy services* and coordinate access to health care for people who are vulnerable** in our community.

*Pharmacy Services: Medicines and necessary services to ensure optimum clinical outcomes.
**Vulnerable: Those living at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level who are uninsured or underinsured for prescription medications.

About the Charitable Pharmacy

Unemployment and increasing healthcare expenses have resulted in an increasing number of people who cannot afford to purchase their prescription medications.  The pharmacy's primary purpose is to increase access to affordable prescription medications for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured Franklin County residents who experience gaps in their insurance coverage and/or challenges in accessing medications.

The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio, Inc. began as a joint project of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and Access Health Columbus, now the Healthcare Collaborative of Greater Columbus. It opened in February 2010, under the guidance of Executive Director/Pharmacist Allan Zaenger.

Services include:
  • Pharmacy services and medicines for those who cannot afford them
  • Counseling on proper medication usage
  • Health screenings
  • Health and wellness education
  • Social program assistance
We are the only pharmacy in Franklin County that provides pharmacy services to patients at no charge and qualifies patients for up to 12 months at a time.  This continuity of care is especially important for patients with multiple clinical conditions that require ongoing medication and services.

Linden Community Pharmacy and Fresh Market

1464 Cleveland Avenue

Food as Medicine

As pharmacists, we know that many chronic health conditions can be better managed with a healthy diet as a complement to a well-managed prescription medication regimen.

The new location in South Linden will co-locate a charitable pharmacy with a fresh food market run by Community Development for All People and emphasize the importance of “Food as Medicine”.

Farmacy in the City

A program funded by the AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation’s Connections for Cardiovascular HealthSM Next Generation program. The goal of the Farmacy in the City program is to increase cardiovascular health for Columbus residents. All services are provided at no cost to participants who receive prescription medication, prescriptions for fresh food, cooking classes, meal planning ideas, and tools to self-monitor their progress.

Begun at the Livingston Avenue location in October 2020, the program will move to the pharmacy’s second location in Summer 2021.
